Today is the third and final day of the three-day National Jirga of Pashtuns in Bannu, Pakhtunkhwa. At the end of the day, the decisions of this Jirga will be announced.
The Jirga, hosted by the Nationalist Pakhtunkhwa National Awami Party, was attended by politicians, tribal leaders, writers, journalists, civil society activists, young women and men from a number of other political parties.
The Pakhtunkhwa National Awami Party (PNA) said it had convened the jirga to discuss the problems facing the Pashtuns and their solutions.
The party’s leader, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, said in an interview with the BBC that he would try to get the jirga to set up a committee to be active at all times in resolving the problems of the Pashtuns.
Although Pashtun jirgas have been held in Pakhtunkhwa before, the current jirga is considered important because it discussed the problems and solutions of Pashtuns day and night for three days.

Politicians from different political parties including Awami National Party delegation, Manzoor Pashtun, leader of Pashtun Salvation Movement, Mohsin Dawar, leader of National Democratic Movement, Afrasiab Khattak, Bashara Gohar and Maulana. Leaders of different Pashtun tribal areas also addressed the Jirga on behalf of their respective peoples and shared their problems with the participants.
Speakers at the Pashtun Jirga yesterday focused on human rights abuses by the Pakistani government and economic and social problems in Pashtun areas.
Manzoor Pashtun, the leader of the Pashtun Salvation Movement, said that although he was not optimistic that the Pakistani government would readily accept the decisions of the Pashtun Jirga, he demanded that justice be done for those killed and that the truth be known.
