Germany, Belgium and Netherlands say they are providing anti-tank and anti-aircraft rockets to Ukraine to boost its defense capabilities against Russian forces.
German Chancellor Olaf Schultz wrote on Twitter that he would supply Ukraine with 1,000 anti-tank RPG missiles and 500 Stinger surface-to-air missiles from the NATO Defense Weapons Center in Europe.
Mr Schultz wrote: “Russia’s invasion of Ukraine marks a turning point. It is our duty to do everything in our power to defend Ukraine against Putin’s occupying forces.”
The Dutch government, meanwhile, said in a letter to its parliament today that it was sending seven Stinger rockets to Ukraine from the ground.
The Dutch Defense Ministry said it would deliver the rockets as soon as possible in coordination with the Dutch allies.
The rockets are in addition to other equipment, weapons, ammunition and radar systems that the Netherlands promised Ukraine last month.
Belgium has also pledged to provide 2,000 tons of machinery and 3,800 tons of fuel to Ukraine.
European countries are announcing aid to Ukraine as Russian President Vladimir Putin warns other countries that any intervention against Russia’s action could lead to “consequences they have never seen”.
