Norway is increasing its humanitarian aid to civilians in Afghanistan by NOK 86 million. The support will be channeled through Norwegian humanitarian organizations.
“The Afghan civilian population needs support during these difficult winter months. The money will, among other areas, go to strengthened protection for children and scaling up health services,” Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt (AP) noted in a press release.
The money will go to the organizations NRC, Norwegian Red Cross, Norwegian Church Aid, Save the Children, and Norcap.
Huitfeldt justifies the increase by saying that the situation in Afghanistan is now precarious. The aim of the support is to prevent health and education services in the country from collapsing.
