The detainees were identified as residents of the Afghan province of Takhar, and Tajik police said they were members of a large-scale drug trafficking ring that had recently been set up along the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border. They also seized 92 kilograms of narcotics, 79 kilograms of heroin and the rest of hashish. Police say they have opened a case for the detainees under Article 200, paragraph 4, of the Tajik Penal Code. Under the article, drug traffickers face up to 20 years in prison.
