Local officials in Kandahar say they have arrested two people in the Spin Boldak district on charges of smuggling weapons into Pakistan.
Kandahar security officials said the men were arrested late last night in the Shero Obo area of Spin Boldak district on the zero section of the Durand Line while smuggling weapons into Pakistan.
The Haqqani network’s spokesman in the Spin Boldak district said the weapons seized included four American heavy artillery pieces, two carbine guns, 3,000 rounds of ammunition, one heavy machine gun and two carbine guns.
He said the number of smugglers was high but only two were captured and the rest escaped.
The Taliban said it was not yet clear where the men had brought the weapons from and that detainees were being questioned.
