Construction work of an iron smelting factory has started in Kandahar with an investment of 2.5 million by a national businessman.
The factory, to be built by Haji Shamsullah Atta, a national businessman in Kandahar Industrial Park, will be completed in 15 months and will initially employ 90 people.
According to Mr Atta, the plant will have a production capacity of five to seven tonnes of construction rods per hour.
Construction of the factory in the Kandahar Industrial Park begins at a time when hundreds of factories have closed in the park in recent years, with a major problem being the lack of electricity.
Officials of the Kandahar Electricity Department say that work is underway to upgrade the power line from the Kajaki Dam in Helmand to Kandahar and with the completion of the project, the power problem of Kandahar’s industrialists will be solved.
