Pakistani officials say the Taliban will only recognize the government if there is a regional consensus. Munir Akram, Pakistan’s envoy to the United Nations, made the remarks in an exclusive interview with Dawn newspaper.
This is despite the fact that Taliban government officials have insisted that they meet all the conditions for recognition and must be recognized. But so far no country has recognized their government.
But some former diplomats believe that Pakistani officials are using regional consensus as an excuse to avoid blaming the Taliban.
Azizuddin Maarij, a former Republican diplomat and current legal adviser in London, said that by making such statements, Pakistan wanted to play a double role against the Taliban and the international community.
According to Maarij, under international private law and the principles of the Vienna and Chicago conventions, each country has the right not to recognize or recognize the other’s relations, but Pakistan is using these excuses out of political compulsion.
