While a number of countries have closed airspace to Russian flights since the Russian invasion of Ukraine and canceled a number of flights, the US State Department has denied the allegations in a statement issued Friday stating “Similar, baseless allegations concerning Russia’s intelligence have been made more than once. Wants to consider leaving the country as soon as possible.
The U.S. Embassy in Moscow posted an announcement on its website on Sunday, February 27. “American citizens should consider withdrawing from Russia on existing trade routes,” the statement said.
The announcement urged US citizens to have possible plans to withdraw from Russia without the cooperation of the US government.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the largest invasion of Europe by a single country since World War II, has led to widespread Western sanctions on Russia.
European countries, including the United States, have even imposed sanctions on Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
The State Department has announced a fourth-degree travel risk to Russia, meaning “do not travel.”
The U.S. embassy in Moscow on February 20 asked U.S. citizens in Russia to plan their evacuation.
The embassy made the announcement based on the risks of attacks on the border with Russia and Ukraine.
