The International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Friday called on all its federations to suspend all activities in Russia and Belarus.
In response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has called on international sports federations to suspend their planned sporting activities in Russia and Belarus or move them to other countries.
The committee said: “They must hold the governments of Russia and Belarus accountable for violating the Olympic norms and give absolute priority to the safety and security of the athletes.”
The decision comes as the European Football Federation has said that the final match of the European Football Championship, scheduled for May in St. Petersburg, Russia, is due to Russia’s attack on Ukraine. Takes place in Paris.
Meanwhile, the British Manchester United football club said on Friday that it had terminated a sponsorship deal with Russian aviation airflot in response to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.
In other news, Formal One announced on Friday that it had canceled the Grand Prix car racing competition scheduled for September 25.
“We are deeply concerned about the situation in Ukraine and hope for a peaceful solution to the current situation,” said Formal One, who made the decision in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
