The Taliban’s foreign ministry has called for an end to the ongoing crisis in Ukraine through talks, with some Afghan political analysts saying the situation in Ukraine could further destabilize the region and possibly affect Afghanistan.
The ministry said in a statement on Friday, February 25, that it was closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine and was concerned about civilian casualties in the ongoing conflict.
The Taliban’s foreign ministry has called for a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine and for all parties involved to take care of the lives of Afghan students and refugees living in Ukraine.
Earlier in the day, a number of Afghan students in Ukraine posted a series of videos on social media asking them to take refuge in a safe place to protect themselves.
The Taliban has good relations with Russia, and although Moscow listed the group as a “terrorist organization” in 2003, it did so after the Taliban seized power in August. He has hosted the group’s delegations several times.
Today marks the second day of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and political analysts say the crisis could affect the world, the region and Afghanistan.
A total of 137 Ukrainian military and civilian civilians have been killed and 316 others wounded in the Russian military offensive since Thursday morning, the AFP news agency reported.
Mr Biden said he had imposed new sanctions on Moscow, which he said would have a negative impact on the Russian economy in the short and long term.
