Meanwhile, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations says more than 19,000 Afghan refugees have returned from Iran this month. In the second week of March alone, 14,481 refugees returned to the country through the port of Islam Qala in Herat, of which 4,862 came to Afghanistan voluntarily and the rest voluntarily, ministry officials said. The returnees are said to include women and children. Meanwhile, last Tuesday alone, 4,896 people returned to Afghanistan via Nimroz, of which 4,399 were forcibly deported from Iran. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) recently said that some 5,000 people had fled to Iran last year due to severe economic problems in Afghanistan.
