The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has announced that the 2022 Asia Cup will be held in Sri Lanka from August 27 to September 11.
The decision was taken at the annual meeting of the council today (Saturday).
This time the Asia Cup will be held in 20 overs format and six teams will take part in it.
The five permanent members of the ICC are Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and host Sri Lanka.
The sixth team will advance to the cup through the qualifying round, which starts on August 20.
The Asia Cup qualifiers will be played between the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Singapore and Hong Kong.
The last match of the Asia Cup was played in 2018 when India won.
The 2022 Asia Cup, scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka, was postponed to 2021 due to the Corona epidemic and then to 2022.
Pakistan, which was earlier scheduled to host the 2022 Asia Cup, has now secured the right to host the 2023 tournament.
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Championship kicked off in Sharjah in 1984 and is the 15th edition of the series.
India have been the best in the Asia Cup so far and have won seven times.
Sri Lanka, the host of the upcoming Asia Cup, has won the tournament five times.
It was also decided at the annual meeting of the Cricket Council of Asia that ‘Ji Shah’ will continue to lead the council till 2024.
He is also the Chairman of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
At the meeting, Oman Cricket Board’s Pankaj Khemji was appointed as the Deputy Chairman of the Cricket Council of Asia and Mahinda Valipuram of the Malaysian Cricket Association as the Chairman of the Development Committee of the Council.
