Former Afghan Senate President Fazal Hadi Muslimyar has left for the United Arab Emirates. A source close to him said, “This is a private trip that will last about ten days.”
The source explained why the trip was taking place now and said that the trip was made possible after the existing problems in the journey were removed. However, the source did not elaborate on the nature of the problem, or who had obstructed the trip. After the fall of Kabul to the Taliban on August 15, 2021, a number of Afghan officials and politicians fled Afghanistan and moved to other countries.
But Mr. Muslimyar was among those who remained in Kabul, along with former President Hamid Karzai and Abdullah Abdullah, the former head of the Afghan National Reconciliation Council. A few days ago, there were reports about former President Hamid Karzai and Abdullah Abdullah, the former head of the National Reconciliation Council, under house arrest and not allowed to travel abroad.
Many of the Taliban’s political and military opponents and leaders are currently living outside of Afghanistan.
Amir Khan Mottaki, the Taliban’s foreign minister in Afghanistan, told the Antalya Diplomacy Forum on Saturday that there were no political prisoners in the country.
Fazal Hadi Muslimyar is a close ally of jihadi leader Abdul Rab Rasul Sayyaf and has remained an influential figure in previous governments.
