China Pledges Support to Afghan Peace Process

China”s Foreign Minister Wang Yi today assured to his Afghan counterpart Salahuddin Rabbani, who is visiting this capital today, that China supports the reconstruction process of that country and will continue its mediation efforts in the peace process. Wang said that China is willing to jointly work with Afghans for reestablishing the Silk Road initiative and hope to increase cooperation in trade, security, and culture, as well as in regional and international cooperation.

With that regard, Wang stressed the need of reintegrating Afghanistan in the land connections of the New Silk Road, with which China wants to join Asia and the Mediterranean through the historical corridor.

The Chinese minister said that his government is wishing to see an Afghanistan that returns to the Silk Road and open a new development chapter, while Rabani emphasized his country’s interest in becoming a transit point.

China backs reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan, chiefly the contruction of residential buildings, the training of personnel, and the improvement of means, said Wang.

Both parties also agreed to cooperate in the fight against terrorism , in order to keep peace and stability in two territories, as well as in the region.

The Afghan Foreign minister arrived in China on Monday for an official visit to conclude on Thursday.
