A meeting is being held in Geneva today to raise international aid for Afghanistan. The meeting was convened by the United Nations and is hosted by Qatar, Britain, and Germany.
The United Nations has called for 4 billion and 400 million in aid to Afghanistan at today’s conference. According to the Reuters news agency, this is one of the biggest demands made by the United Nations on humanitarian issues with one country. “Together with our allies and partners, we will do everything we can to help Afghanistan,” said British Foreign Secretary Liz Trass, announcing 5 million in aid to Afghanistan.
According to the United Nations, nearly 3 million Afghans are severely starved, 5 percent of Afghans do not have access to adequate food, and 5 million children need immediate assistance to survive.
On the eve of the conference yesterday (Wednesday), the UK pledged 286 million in food and other necessities to save lives in Afghanistan.
