Several sources have confirmed to the BBC that the condition of a child who fell into a deep well in the southern Afghan province of Zabul is deteriorating.
A local reporter said rescue efforts were still ongoing and that evacuation equipment had been stepped up.
The reporter added that the child’s health condition is not good and he was pulled from the well last night and is now trapped in a narrow space in the middle.
The source said rescue efforts are underway and the baby might not be pulled out of the well by the end of the day.
An official from Zabul’s information and culture department also told the BBC that the child had fallen off the road and was trapped in the middle of a well.
According to the official, some equipment fell on the child from above but rescue work is underway.
The incident took place in a remote area of Qalat, the capital of Zabul province.
The baby is about six years old and has fallen into 35 meter deep well.
The news comes days after a five-year-old boy fell into a deep well in a similar incident in Morocco and was rescued after four days of rescue efforts.
