The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) organized world sustainability development summit WSDS 2016 in New Delhi.
The WSDS brought together Nobel laureates, political leaders, decision-makers from bilateral and multilateral institutions, business leaders, high-level functionaries from the diplomatic corps, scientists and researchers, media personnel, and members of civil society; to deliberate on issues related to sustainable development.
Post the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals and the signing of the Paris Agreement, the WSDS aims to provide long-term solutions for the benefit of the global community by assembling the various stakeholders on a single platform.
The first edition of the WSDS held October 2016 in New Delhi, under the broad rubric of ‘Beyond 2015: People, Planet and Progress.
The event was inaugurated by the Hon’ble President of India Mr. PranabMukherjee. Power minister PiyushGoyal, HRD Minister PrakashJavadekar, Environment Minister Anil Madhav Dave, Minister of State for Aviation JayantSinha, Ambassador of the European Union to India Tomasz Kozlowski took part in the event.
Among the speakers were Ambassadors, Diplomats, high government officials, Scientists and businessmen.
WSDS was among the first international platforms to discuss the new agenda post the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals and the signing of the Paris Agreement. It gathered global leaders and thinkers on a single platform to stimulate action for sustainable development.
The main features at the event were regional dialogues, business day, exhibition, sustainable development leadership award, the thematic tracks and plenary sessions.
At the thematic session on “climate resilient on agriculture” at the World Sustainable Development Summit organized by The Energy and Research Institute (TERI), speakers called for a robust assessment on climate change projects and research for climate resilient crops.
Introduction to alternate energy was the main focus. Industrialists from the leading companies aimed to use clean energy afterwards.
The concept of solar pumps for collecting and using underground water was amazing. That could help farmers irrigate crops and can store water for fishery as well as other uses. It could help farmers generate more income and raise the standard of their life.
The Introduction of Bio mass energy for generating electricity also caught the attention of the audience in the summit. That is an amazing idea and can produce clean electricity in the areas where people are deprived of this blessing even in 21st century.
That was an amazing program where people from different sectors of life came together to fight climate change challenges and reduce the earth temperature that’s been increased by human activities over the years.
Media representatives from South Asian countries including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Cameron covered the event.
