Pakistani Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said the body of Taliban chief Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour, who was killed in a US drone strike in Balochistan earlier this month, had been handed over to his heirs after completion of DNA tests.
Mullah Mansour was killed on May 21 in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province after he entered the country from Iran. Pakistani officials and family members said he hired the vehicle in the Pakistani border town of Taftan, and driver Muhammad Azam had no links to any militant group.
Mullah Mansour was traveling with documents that identified him as a Pakistani citizen called Muhammad Wali. Pakistan’s interior minister said Tuesday an investigation into how he acquired the documents is under way.
