Lots of Afghan women in a gathering called on the Islamic Emirate not to ignore the basic rights of women in such a dire situation, saying the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution for the support of women must be upheld in Afghanistan. Women activists and university teachers held a gathering today to recognize International Women\u2019s Day in Kabul, and the participants stressed that women must be granted their Islamic and human rights. The Islamic Emirate needs to consider international standards and listen to the legitimate demands of the people inside Afghanistan and beyond, on Tuesday they said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe doors of schools are closed for women and girls and even though the universities have reopened, many challenges are ahead for higher education,\u201d said Jamila Safi, CEO of Peace and Freedom Organization. The participants urged the interim government to observe the basic rights of women.<\/p>\n
\u201cWomen\u2019s rights should not be changed into a tool that is misused politically. The women must be treated as humans and as Holy Islam says,\u201d said Stara Sadat, women’s rights activist. Meanwhile, the Afghanistan Federation of Journalists and Media at a separate gathering urged the Islamic Emirate to ease the way of accessing information for journalists.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are observing the women’s day, as 80 percent of women journalists have lost their occupations,\u201d said Farhad Behrooz, a member of the Journalist’s union. At the end of the gathering, the Afghan women asked for women’s inclusion in society and politics.<\/p>\n
