The ‘Bab Dosti’ gate between Spin Boldak and Chaman on the Durand Line has reopened on the third day of clashes between the Taliban and Pakistani forces.<\/p>\n
A clash between Taliban and Pakistani border guards broke out at the gate between Spin Boldak and Chaman in Kandahar on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Sources close to Boldak told the BBC that the clashes started around 12 local time and continued till noon.<\/p>\n
Six people were killed and at least 25 were injured in what became known as the Cold War.<\/p>\n
This is the fiercest battle along the Durand Line since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan. The road was closed after the incident and thousands of people were stranded on both sides.<\/p>\n
Earlier, Usman Kakar, deputy chairman of the Afghanistan-Pakistan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry, told the BBC that Pakistani border guards had met with border officials to discuss the issue.<\/p>\n
He said their information showed that the meeting had taken place on Thursday night, but the closed road had not been reopened until Sunday.<\/p>\n
A Pakistani official in Quetta claimed that the Afghan Taliban were setting up a security checkpoint on Pakistani soil, but were stopped by Pakistani forces, who opened fire, after which they returned fire.<\/p>\n
But Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the Taliban in Afghanistan, wrote on his Twitter account: “There was a local problem with the Pakistani guards in Spin Boldak, Kandahar. Unfortunately, the first shots were fired by the Pakistani guards.”<\/p>\n
It is worth mentioning that the Durand Line between Afghanistan and Pakistan is 2400 km long and Pakistan started installing fences and barbed wire on it four years ago.<\/p>\n
Pakistan claims to have spent a lot of money on the project and says it has installed barbed wire along the line to prevent illegal movement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
