Former Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani’s National Security Adviser Hamdullah Mohib says rumors of Mr Ghani’s return to Kabul are baseless.<\/p>\n
He wrote on his Twitter account on Sunday: “President Ghani has always believed in and committed to a lasting peace for all Afghans in which values \u200b\u200bcannot be trampled underfoot.”<\/p>\n
Mr Mohib added: “President Ghani still supports a fundamental debate for the good of the people, one in which all the people of the country are represented.”<\/p>\n
Hamdullah Mohib has denied rumors of Mr Ghani’s return to Kabul, saying earlier in an interview that Hashmat Ghani Ahmadzai, the former president’s brother, was talking about Mr Ghani’s return to Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
Hashmat Ghani recently met with Ghani in the United Arab Emirates and made the remarks in an interview with Deutsche Welle.<\/p>\n
He said that if Ashraf Ghani’s return to Afghanistan was “beneficial”, he is ready to return.<\/p>\n
But he also noted that Mr Ghani is not interested in returning to politics, but wanted to be “socially active”.<\/p>\n
Mr Ahmadzai said talks were under way with some quarters on the return of Ashraf Ghani. “I will take up the matter myself,” he said.<\/p>\n
The former president himself has not yet commented on the possibility of returning to Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
Mohammad Ashraf Ghani left Kabul on August 15, 2021 as the Taliban reached the gates of the capital.<\/p>\n
He has lived in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, since leaving Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
After leaving, he said the Taliban had planned to assassinate him, but the Taliban said they had no intention of entering Kabul by force and had entered the city because of chaos following the departure of the previous government leaders.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
