Qatar’s foreign minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, told the BBC that there are still questions about whether the money given to the Taliban in the future could fall into the hands of terrorists.<\/p>\n
The Qatari foreign minister was asked during a speech at the Chatham House Institute of International Affairs in London whether he was sure that the money given to the Taliban would not fall into the hands of terrorists. Mr Al-Thani responded by saying that there was a question with the international community that had not yet been answered.<\/p>\n
Qatar, which is now the guardian of US interests in Afghanistan and plays a mediating role between the Taliban government and the West, hosted and mediated face-to-face talks between the US and the Taliban.<\/p>\n
The Qatari newspaper Al-Sharq has published excerpts from Mr. Al-Thani’s speech at Chatham House, stating that in his view there is still much work to be done in Afghanistan for Qatar, the United States and other allies because he wants to make sure that Afghanistan Is secure and has made its way to progress.<\/p>\n
