Tom West, the US special envoy to Afghanistan, says the United States is talking honestly and sincerely with the Taliban.<\/p>\n
In his long speech on the sixth anniversary of the Taliban’s rule in Afghanistan, Mr West emphasized that the United States would not recognize the Taliban unless it changed its attitude.<\/p>\n
Mr West said the United States did not support any resistance group against the Taliban and called on other countries in the region to take a similar stance.<\/p>\n
The US special envoy to Afghanistan has said that the United States is not seeking to overthrow the Taliban regime and expects them to all inclusive their government.<\/p>\n
Mr West also offered some reasons to justify President Biden’s recent ruling on Afghanistan’s frozen currency.<\/p>\n
“America’s goals in Afghanistan are the same as they were ten years ago,” West said in a speech at the American Institute of Peace.<\/p>\n
He said the United States wants a peace-loving state in Afghanistan that would never be a haven for terrorists who are threatened by the United States and its allies, a state that protects the rights of all, including women and girls.<\/p>\n
The US envoy called the Taliban’s remarks “white.” He described the meeting with all Taliban leaders as relatively useful and genuine.<\/p>\n
But he said that now America’s priority in Afghanistan is to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe.<\/p>\n
