In a classroom in Herat, Afghanistan, a group of girls is working on a mobile phone application that would help tourists coming to their country.<\/p>\n

Subscribers to the app will be able to take a quiz about Afghanistan, and based on their selections, see a list of suggested places to visit and food to try.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s more about showing a good image of Afghanistan that the media, unfortunately, doesn\u2019t show,\u201d said Fereshteh Forough, the founder of Code to Inspire<\/a>, which teaches women and girls about technology and coding.<\/p>\n

In Afghanistan, less than 10 percent of the population has internet access. But mobile phone usage is much higher. About 60 percent of the population subscribes to a mobile phone service, according to the CIA World Factbook<\/a>, while the Afghan Ministry of Communications and Information says 90 percent of the population lives in an area accessible to mobile-cellular services.
